Climate Action Africa Forum (CAAF) is an annual gathering organized by Climate Action Africa, bringing together global climate action leaders, visionaries, and change-makers. Its primary goal is to shape a climate-smart future for Africa through co-design, co-creation, innovation, and investment. With Africa facing pressing climate challenges from the Nile to the Niger, this forum serves as a platform for collaborative discussions and solutions to create a brighter future for the continent’s 1.3 billion people.

The Nile to Niger region, inhabited by 1.3 billion people (soon to be 2 billion), faces a severe impact from climate change despite minimal greenhouse gas emissions. Africa, highly vulnerable according to the IPCC, grapples with limited adaptive capacity. Changing weather patterns, desertification, and rising sea levels directly threaten livelihoods, food security, and economic growth in many African countries.

Agriculture

Climate change poses a significant threat to Africa’s agriculture, potentially reducing essential crop yields by up to 12% by 2050 and endangering food security.

Rising Sea Levels

Endanger 12 African coastal cities, risking over 60 million residents and $65-86.5 billion in potential losses by 2050.

Water Scarcity

By 2025, over 230 million Africans may experience water scarcity, with 14% of the population (approximately 160 million people) already living in water-scarce conditions, according to the PAWS index.

Economic Strain

Climate-related events can cost African economies a staggering 3-5% of their GDPs annually by 2050 if immediate action is not taken, as indicated by the African Development Bank.

Climate Action Africa Forum (CAAF) is a platform that unites the participation of diverse stakeholders in advancing and achieving climate action in Africa. Grounded in The Nairobi Declaration, CAAF concentrates its efforts on engaging the private sector to play a key role in fulfilling commitments and responding to the call to action;

CAAF intends to realize its goals by bridging the gap between policy and on-the-ground actors, innovators and entrepreneurs through several key channels including but not limited to;

  • Platforms for Dialogue: Establishing forums and platforms where stakeholders and key actors can engage in meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and align their efforts.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Promoting the sharing of ideas, solutions and experiences between regions and communities for the rapid advancement of best practices.
  • Collaborative Projects: Fostering partnerships between stakeholders and key actors to initiate projects that embody practical innovation and policy objectives.
  • Policy Development: Contributing to the development of policies that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, by highlighting the needs and potentials of local communities.
  • Access to Resources: Connecting innovators and entrepreneurs to necessary resources, not limited to funding, technology, and expertise, which are often guided or influenced by policy framework.

Building Climate Resilient African Communities

The Climate Action Africa Forum is an event convened by Climate Action Africa (CAA). CAA works on fostering Climate-Resilient Communities, Innovation, and Green Growth in Africa. Through the Forum, we aim to increase education and awareness on climate change, showcase innovations and projects driving Africa to a sustainable future, and more actively contribute to the expansion of Africa’s green economy.

Grounded in The Nairobi Declaration, CAAF24 concentrates its efforts on engaging the private sector to play a key role in fulfilling commitments and responding to the call to action by building effective partnerships in Africa and with other regions to meet the needs for financial, technical, and technological support and knowledge sharing for climate change adaptation.
